Charley Jones was one of the fine slugging stars of professional baseball for the best part of a decade, mostly with Cincinnati, and was at one time the all-time single-season home run leader. The fading Mets of 1887 picked up the fading star to man the outfield for them midway through the season, and he was a solid contributor for them, though not the career .300 hitter they had hoped they were receiving. When the franchise moved to the midwest the following year, Charley became a Kansas City Cowboy for only six games, and then was through.
