Acquired: traded from the Orioles with Scott McClain for Hector Ramirez, March 1997
Departed: sent to the Chicago Cubs to complete an earlier deal, August 1997; the Mets had traded Lance Johnson and two players to be named later (Mark Clark and Alexander) to the Cubs for Brian McRae, Mel Rojas, and Turk Wendell

 

One time was thought to be the eventual replacement for Cal Ripken at shortstop for the Orioles. That didn't happen, but he had a fairly long and successful career as a defensive infielder. Pictured here is his card from the 1996 Score set. Below the stats box is pictured the only card in my collection that shows Manny as a Met, and a happy twist of fate has him wearing his "ice cream" hat in that photo.
