New Yorkers wondered for years whether he would be the next great Mets pitcher, but he finally wore out the welcome mat early in 2004. Plagued by injuries and inconsistency throughout his Mets career, he finally gave way to significantly older Ricky Bottalico in May 2004, after almost winning a spot in the starting rotation during Spring Training.
