The card pictured here is from the 1970s set commonly called "Sportscasters." The reason I used it is because it was just about the biggest card of Tom Seaver I had, and anything smaller wouldn't do justice to the greatest pitcher ever to put on spikes for a New York team. He was, of course, The Franchise. Three Cy Young awards. Nine straight seasons with 200 strikeouts. A 19-K game, including the last 10 batters in a row. A no-hitter. ERA titles, strikeout titles. 300 wins, 3,000 Ks, and a career ERA under 3.00. I could go on! Elected to the Hall of Fame with the highest percentage of "yes" ballots in history. Tom remains a New York icon, working the broadcast booth through the 2005 season and serving as a sometime Spring Training coach for the Mets. There are several more of his cards pictured below.
